I know many girls who wear their SOs dog tags or custom made ones and that is OK but I want all my customers to understand why I personally will never wear or make them.
It is common knowledge that dog tags are in fact Identification tags. A way of determining the ID of soldiers was first used in the civil war when the death rate was high not only because of battles but poor health and environments as well. They wanted their families to know they were dead. Today tags are mandatory while in uniform.
While dog tags have been romanticised the fact remains that widows receive a set of dog tags of their deceased. It is a sad, but true fact. So knowing this fact, to me putting on dog tags is an unbearable thought I will only slip the chain over my head should, God forbid, my husband be KIA. I cannot even write out the words...
If you decide to wear dog tags that is your right but I think you should know the facts and face them. Your SO may not come home, that is true of civilians too but as military men and women our SOs face a higher threat, especially when deployed in hostile territory. So I will never make dog tags.
However, I am planning for a memory line so that those who have lost some one can carry a reminder.
